Legends of Runeterra: Swift

Swift is a keyword designed only for the Path of Champions, heavily inspired by Flash from Magic the Gathering, allowing the player to play cards with it at any time without passing priority to their opponent.

This keyword is very strong and would have been problematic for PVP gameplay, as it removes interaction between players. However, it feels very good to play with, making it a prime candidate for PVE only gameplay, which became the priority in Legends of Runeterra’s card design since 2024 and allowed such a keyword to be created.

For the champion benefiting the most from this mechanic, I chose Akali, whose gameplay in League of Legends revolves around quick bursts of action that leave her victims little to no time to react. Since this is the core of her gameplay, it felt better to adapt it through the idea of playing many different cards in a row rather than directly adapting her abilities, which encouraged me to pick her for this set.
